Green Ability

Winter Gritting Services

The greenability nationwide gritting service is a proactive or reactive service. Our flexibility & availability sets us apart from all of our competition. We have a 100% turn out to all agreed sites for the previous six years for providing our service. Full Risk / Method Statements & COSHH will be supplied before commencement of works; also any specific site requirements put in place.

Proactive explanation

Where we monitor the temperature throughout the day and take forecasts from the Met office which provides us with a detailed report, localised for each area to be covered.  The Operations Supervisor and Contracts Manager will make the decision at 17.00 hours the previous afternoon to attend each site during that evening or the following morning, if gritting is necessary due to the agreed trigger temperature forecast.

Your site will be placed on a run with others in your area if the temperature has been forecast to reach your designated threshold; this temperature drop often does not take place until the early hours of the morning.

We endeavour to complete gritting and snow clearing on each site by 6.00am.

Reactive Services

Where we monitor the temperature throughout the morning and take forecasts from the Met office which provides us with a detailed report for your location, Our office staff will call an agreed contact at your location in the morning if the agreed trigger temperature is forecast for that evening. We will require a definitive answer by 15.00 to confirm if we should proceed for that evening.

We endeavour to complete gritting and snow clearing on each site by 6.00am.

We are contactable 7 days a week on our office number, day & night. We do not alter our service at weekends; we run the same way all through the winter so  that the clients have full peace of mind.

A few points to remember:

  1. Icy conditions: Whilst roads appear to be gritted, care must be taken when driving in and out of site, as they may still be icy for a short time.
  2. Extreme cold:  The effectiveness of salt is reduced at temperature below minus five degrees C. Below minus 10 degrees it doesn’t work.
  3. Freezing rain:  This is when rain turns to ice as soon as it hits the ground, to form a sheet of ice.  This is a rare and dangerous condition which is difficult to predict and is often extremely localised.  Even continuous salting may not prevent ice forming. Extreme care must be taken whilst driving in these conditions.
We use Gritting lorries for larger locations with push gritters for pathways. We also have trailer gritters / smaller tow alongs that we can use if a site is awkward for the lorries to fit around.

We also provide a service to clear snow from your key areas, snow clearance, snow plough service to keep your site functioning through-out the winter months.

We currently provide these services to retail parks, shopping centres, industrial estates, car parks, emergency services, blue chip companies, large power companies and large trade suppliers.
