Greenability's Latest Service - Food Waste Recycling
08-02-2010
An existing client of greenability, Lafarge Aggregates Ltd, already had our solutions in place for their grounds maintenance and winter gritting services. However, once introduced to greenability’s latest service, they soon had another solution in place for their food waste recycling needs.
A meeting was organised with the Client to discuss the service and their individual requirements. The Client gave us a good idea of the quantity of food waste that they hoped we would be recycling; however, to determine the actual quantity we arranged a one month trial.
greenability provided Lafarge Aggregates with all the necessary equipment and literature for their kitchen staff. On arranged dates and times greenability staff attended the site and collected the specially designed sealed food waste carrying equipment.
Once we completed our recycling processes the food waste was then transported to BiogenGreenfinch where it was recycled by a process called Anaerobic Digestion. This process converts the food into renewable energy and a valuable fertiliser which is used for arable crop production. The electricity produced by means of the process is fed into the grid and any surplus heat and electricity is used to power the plant.
greenability have chosen to work with BiogenGreenfinch as the process they use to recycle the food waste is the most environmentally friendly. We are very excited about the prospect of working with them further within the Midlands region to improve food recycling rates.
